Bruce Ashford at Between the Times is working through an interesting series called “Taking God to the Movies.” I almost ignored this series, as I tend to be annoyed by too much movie talk in churchy circles, but it got my attention at the 4th post. This made me look at the third post where Ashford presents nine elements that are in nearly every movie or story, and which we can use to wisely think through movies and books for more than simply entertainment value.
Post 3 shows us and explains the 9 points in every story: theme, hero, hero’s
goal, adversary, character flaw, apparent defeat, final confrontation, self-revelation, and resolution.
Post 4 shows us the 9 points in Braveheart and Tommy Boy (a fascinating paring), and helps us to think through the points to see the value or harm in a film’s worldview.
In other news:
Albert Mohler writes on a problem that many of us have seen for a while now: the abortion industry around the world targets and destroys more baby girls than baby boys—by a lot.
